Welcome to the download section of Porkchop Technology Review’s!  The point of this download page is to keep all the important programs and files on one page.  What usually happens is when I reformat or fix a computer, and try to help someone I tell them to download most of these files, and they usually end up having to look everywhere for them which is a pain, this is an easier way of getting the files.  I also notice that the site’s that have these files are really annoying as well, having to click download, then continue, then download, which is annoying and wastes time.  The files here are all free and hosted here, and they are all .zip files so get Winzip or Winrar to extract, which will be on this download page as well if you scroll down.  And all files have been Virus scanned by ESET NOD32.
Please note that some of these programs may not be up to date, I’ll try to keep the files up to date.  I will also probably add more programs and files I come across that I think are worth having, and of course free.

Anti Virus Programs

• AVG 8.5 – AVG Anti Virus Free version, one of the best free versions of anti viruses around, and highly recommended.  Virus data base is updated regularly.

Spyware Programs

• Spybot 1.6.2 – This spyware program is great, the scan is quick, and it also has an immunization database which protects web browsers from even getting spyware, it even has on access scanning protection.
• Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition – Great spyware program, one of the first around, and re-developed, much better scanning, and adwatch is now free, which monitors your computer constantly for spyware.
• Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.38 – This program is also a good program to have as a 3rd defence  against spyware, does not have an on access scanner, but paid version does.
• SpywareBlaster 4.2 - This program does not scan for spyware but protects your computer from getting spyware in the first place, it’s great since it does not take resources and its updated frequently with new threats.

Web Browsers

• FireFox 3.0.11 – FireFox is one of the best browsers out there, and also most secure, pair it up with Adblock Plus plugin and its the best browser.
• Google Chrome – This is Google’s first browser released, it’s very quick, loads pages up quickly, and has lots of room for improvement in future updates and releases.

Gaming related Programs and Chat Programs

• Steam – Steam client is used to download and purchase valve games such as Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead, but also offers many other games to purchase and download.  Steam also has community pages and a friends list.
• Ventrilo 3.0.5 32 bit version Ventrilo 3.0.5 64bit version – Used for VOIP (Voice over IP) communication this is the client that is used to connect to a Ventrilo server, most popular use for Ventrilo is gaming communication.
• Team Speak – Another program used for VOIP by gamers
• mIRC 6.35 – An old IRC (Internet Relay Chat) program still used today by many gamers for connecting and chatting outside of the game and creating communities (clans, etc), it is very light on resources.

Registry/Computer Cleaining Programs

• CCleaner – One of the best programs to clean temporary files on the computer, it also has a built in registry scanner and a uninstaller to uninstall programs that do not uinstall correctly the old fashioned way.  It also speeds up and makes more space on you’re computer since it cleans up all the unnecessary files that are accumulated during browsing and installing programs.
• Wise Registry Cleaner – Good registry scanner program, finds invalid registry entries and removes them, backs up your  registry in case of mess up, registry cleaning is good, since it reduces errors, and helps the computer access files quickly, uinistallers do not always remove all the registry files, that is when you need a registry cleaner.

PlayStation 3/ Video Programs

• DivX – One of the best programs around, can play almost any video format, if you ever encounter an .avi file or a file that just won’t play on Windows Media Player, and if you just see a black screen and audio, then you need a codec, and this is it.
• PS3 Media Server – This program allows you to stream video files, music, and photo’s to your PS3 from your computer harddrive, this program is great, it makes your PS3 into an actual Media Center, its like having a real computer right next to your TV.  And this works perfectly fine with PS3, it does not damage it or upload files to it in anyway.
• TVersity – Another program like PS3 Media Server, it has a better layout, looks better, and has the ability to automatically subscribe to Youtube channels, to view Youtube videos easily on your PS3

Computer Research Programs

• Folding@Home - Is a program that runs on you’re computer, that uses you’re computer’s idle resources to compute calculations of folding proteins, the research is being done by Stanford University in United States, this is a great way to help find a cure for Cancer and many other illnesses.
• Bionic (SETI@Home) – Bionic is almost like Folding@Home, the only difference is that Bionic has many projects linked to it and you have the ability to choose the project you wish to contribute to, they even have a project that has been running for years now, that is using the computer power to try to find aliens (other life forms) in space.

CMS – Content Management Systems / Forum Software

• WordPress 2.8 - This is what this site was made with WordPress blog software, very easy to use and makes maintaing a website easy, not need to have an HTML editor or know a lot about HTML to use this software, since the coders who released it did all the hard work and released it free.
• Joomla 1.5.11- Another great CMS software, more advanced, and used for webpages, not really blogs, it’s a great CMS program though, it makes updating a site easy, once its all setup.
• PHPBB 3.0.5 – One of the most popular forum software that is free out there, creates great message boards, but has a problem with spam and the security of it has been questionable in the past (I’ve had some PHPBB forums in the past hacked)

Overclocking Programs / Computer Information

• Riva Tuner – One of the best overclocking programs for graphic cards, great for overclocking graphic cards the safe way, not having to modify the bios and saves your settings and applies them at startup.
• Everest – Every wondered what the exact kind of RAM you need, or the type of processor socket you have, or Harddrive brand, well use this software to find out, it displays most computer information, which helps in upgrading parts.

MISC Programs

• Mcafee Site Advisor – A browser plugin that is free that helps to protect you from visiting phishing websites (websites that look like your bank for example but aren’t and takes your password)  It also monitors most websites and tells you if they are safe or not.
• Open Office – The free Microsoft Office replacement, has spreadsheet, excel, and everything, and its completely free.
• Daemon Tools – Great program to emulate a DVD or CD drive, great for backups, no need to burn the CD or DVD just use the virtual drive.
• WinRAR 64bit / WinRAR 32bit – One of the best de-compression/compression tool, it supports many file types such as .zip, .rar, .iso, etc and is great for opening them up and creating them.
• WinZip – Another great program like WinRAR, specialises in ZIP files, but I don’t use WinZip anymore, I use WinRAR instead.
• Crossloop – Remote assistance program, used to find helpers and help people, huge database of helpers online, very easy to use, read my review about Crossloop for more information.
• FileZilla 3.2.5 - Free FTP program to access your website to upload/download files.
