This is how speakers should be placed in a room, note that the sub is close to a wall for better sound.
I own a pair of Bose Acoustimass speakers, my first surround sound system that I have owned, besides a cheap Home Theatre in a Box that I bought for a day and returned back, because it sounded awful. I have to say that the Bose speaker’s sound great, I’m no expert in audio, but I do know when something sounds good, I have read many reviews online before purchasing the Bose speakers, many of them where negative, a lot of people complaining about low base, and lot of various things by the sound of them, which I cannot understand at all why they would, because in fact most of what they say is not true, either they are working for the competitor or they have the system setup incorrectly, or they just don’t know how to place speakers correctly, don’t have the room where to put it, for it to sound good. As you know a speaker has to be in the right spot for it to sound good, its like turning the portable radio backwards and listening to it like that, it will sound like crap. Another important thing people don’t do it seems is they don’t configure the audio settings correctly, or they buy cheap Amplifiers, I use a Harmon Karndon, and it works great, the thing with the Bose speakers, is it has its own control center built into the Sub-woofer box with controls to control various sound features such as base, and life, which is increase the output of the speakers more depending on your room size, and then you have to configure your amplifier, many companies are now charging top dollar to do this, but you do not need anybody to do it, what sounds good to your ears is usually acceptable, and if you want to do it even better, get a couple friends over to hear the speakers and get their opinion. The room size is important as well, so the sound carries around the room evenly, surround system in a small room will cross its path and most likely sound all weird, and you won’t be able to hear the distinct actions of each speaker. Source of audio is the most important factor and connections, I connect to my Satellite Receiver with a optical SPDIF which gives the best surround sound output from sources, I even have the PlayStation 3 connected that way to the Amp. Many TV Broadcasts have compressed audio, and many programs are not broadcast in 5.1 yet, so you are getting audio that isn’t at its best, only the same audio is coming out of all the speakers, the best way of testing them out is playing a Blu-ray movie with DTS sound, that will show the true power of your speaker’s. I really enjoy my Bose Speakers, here are some Pro’s and Con’s of them.
