Age of Conan Review – Not a good game

Not a good game
I have to write about this game, Age of Conan the Hyborian adventures, because it was one of the few games that really got me upset and I felt ripped off! This game was a big hype, it was suppose to be the World of Warcraft killer, and everyone was saying the graphics are amazing, and all this, and including my buddy who preordered the game, I also read reviews online that said this game was amazing. What a big mistake it was, the game looked good, that’s for sure, but things were lacking, it seemed like an unfinished game right when I got into it. Age of Conan was suppose to be a newer MMORPG game, close to the lines of World of Warcraft and much better questing, and new features, such as building city’s and stuff like that which sounded cool. When I got the game, I was in it on day 1, and it was fun, I have to admit, and quickly rose past the levels, I was level 19 in a couple hours, and then while doing this quest, the AoC servers shut down, I thought to myself no big deal, this happens in WoW all the time its normal, and I will just have to re-do this quest. Well what actually happened when I logged in the day before was a character who was stuck, who could not get back into that quest, and that quest was the final one on that island which allowed you to venture forth, now that was strange, but at the same time I knew that I could easily contact support and that this is a new game, so I go ahead and get in line with support, and i find out I was 700 person in queue!, and the worst part about it is that, you had to wait on the PC and moving around for who knows how many hours until they got to you, maybe even days, because when you quit the game, you would have to re-issue another support queue and go back to the line, what a dumb thing that was. Especially in a game where it cost $60-70 to buy then another $15 to play monthly, and it as unplayable, yes I could of started another character, but I didn’t feel like it, since I already worked on that one, and was already almost out of the “starting area” So i surprisingly quit that game in 2 days that it came out, I just got frustrated with it and quit, and from seeing the forum posts, I actually came across one of mine, just recently in a google search, which I thought it was funny, it was great what I said in it, it was a thread with 50+ pages in it with people having the same problem and no official response from the team at AoC. So seeing it now this game has failed and I can see why it had a bad start from the beginning, big hype but no actual quality and the most disappointing thing is that there was no demo, so a lot of people got ripped off on this game also. Another funny thing to add, is I started off in a Player versus player server (PVP) and it was so flawed, that I remember spawn camping the starting island and just kept spamming my kill button right when people re-spawned so they didn’t even get a chance to play, I remember i had about a crowed of 10-15 people chasing me and then getting me back for what I did, but I found that flaw very amusing, how that got through beta testing beats me. Also the game was really laggy, and crashed several times during playing, and my buddy had to quit because of it, it had many bugs, that caused the game to crash, and lockup.
Now I learned my lesion to not preorder games or to believe a lot of hype and glory that a lot of games get before being launched, I suggest you all wait and play the demo and see for yourself before purchasing something that is disappointing, especially the MMORPG type games because it just isn’t shooting a gun at someone, it is interacting with the entire fake world in the game including currency, resources, and many other things. So save your money and buy the game that is worth it, and don’t jump to fast on the preorder. I also want to say something else, that most picture’s of games, just like models are “photoshopped” to look better than what it actually looks. So when a new game is announced and they start posting pictures, usually those pictures are not what you will see in game graphics wise.
Post your comments about the game, I’d even be curious to hear about current people that stuck through it and are still playing.
Here is an interesting article about the creator of Age of Conan and how he resigns from Funcom the company that created the game http://www.massively.com/2008/09/17/producer-and-game-director-for-age-of-conan-resigns-from-funcom/

to each his own…i agree with you about this for the most part. however, there were enough things to like that i would be willing to check the game out again down the road..after they have had time to improve it.

I was so stupid to buy this game. I was in to WoW for a year when my best friend told me about AoC, and how cool it could be. We didn’t preorder it but bought it on the first week of its relase. We struggled with it for 2 weeks! And to be honest we didnt even played trough the 30 days that was included. There where (and are!!) major graphic issues with this game, not to mention the gameplay. When i bought the game i had a powerful pc config, and still the game was nearly unplayable even after i switched on lower settings. 5+ ppl on screen and the FPS got below 10!!! The textures where a mess, even after 30 seconds of waiting they didnt got loaded properly. Im now playing Warhammer Online and that game has far much better graphics and still i play it on highest settings, and the FPS rate is allways 45+ even in crowded RvR battles. So AoC is not slow because its graphics are awesome, its just made wrong. Its clear to me that the makers of this game are far from professionals and this is sad because this game could have been outstanding and fun, but even today, (i rejoined for a free 10 days) they are not improved! Its more fun playing a free MMO like Perfect World or Requiem and those are FREE TO PLAY!!!! So i say keep on playing WoW or Warhammer, and leave this pice of crap alone!
